Most connection and recording issues can be resolved with the steps below.
Check the connection
Make sure the piano is powered on and connected to the iPhone or iPad through USB MIDI or a supported Bluetooth MIDI connection.
Confirm the server
Use the same server region for login and history. Data is not migrated or deleted when you change regions.
Allow sync to finish
After practice, keep the device online until the home screen reports that synchronization is complete, then open History.

How is Stability calculated?
Stability measures both tempo accuracy and evenness, producing a score from 0 to 100.

The interface shows a whole number; practice records retain higher precision.
Hit Rate
Target beat duration is 60,000 ÷ target BPM. A valid interval is a hit when its deviation falls inside the configured tolerance.
Rhythm Consistency
Calculated from the standard deviation of all valid rhythm offsets. Smaller variation means more even playing and a higher score.
Recognise rests first
Longer intervals within the maximum rest setting are normalised to the nearest whole beat. Silence beyond the pause threshold is excluded.
Example: 100 BPM with ±15% tolerance
One beat is 600 ms. The allowed difference is ±90 ms, so a normalised interval from 510 to 690 ms counts as a hit.
- The first key has no preceding interval and creates no Stability sample.
- Additional keys in the same chord are treated as part of the same beat.
- The score uses all valid samples in the current practice session, not only the last five seconds.

Answers to common product questions

The piano is connected, but the app receives no keys
Confirm that MIDI output is enabled; the USB adapter supports data and not only charging; Bluetooth MIDI pairing is complete; and no other app is currently reading the same MIDI device.
Why is there no Start button on the practice screen?
The screen continuously waits for MIDI input. The first valid key automatically begins rhythm analysis and effective-practice timing.
How are longer gaps between keys handled?
The app recognises rests using the Maximum Consecutive Rests setting. By default, up to five beats are normalised to the nearest whole beat. Silence reaching the pause threshold is excluded from effective practice time.
My finished session is missing from History
Return to Home and check sync status. With an unstable network, records remain safely on the device and retry later. Confirm that the account and server region match the ones used during practice.
What happens when I change server regions?
Existing data is neither migrated nor deleted. New data is saved to the new server, and you must sign in again. We do not recommend frequent region changes.
How do I change tempo and analysis settings?
Adjust target BPM on Home in steps of 10; it is saved locally. Hit tolerance, maximum rests, idle pause threshold and upload package size are available in Settings.
How do I sign out or permanently delete my account?
Sign out in Settings. The small “Permanently delete this account” option at the bottom requires two confirmations and current-password verification. Deleted cloud data cannot be restored.

DATA & PRIVACY
Piano Companion account and data help
Data sync
Practice data is stored on the device first, then uploaded in batches according to network conditions. Do not uninstall while a sync is in progress.
Account deletion
Start permanent deletion at the bottom of Settings. Two confirmations and password verification protect your account.
Security reports
Support will never request your password by email. Do not send access tokens, full database exports or another person's information.
